2024 Independence Day

Parade Application

Saturday, June 29th at 7:30 PM

By participating in the Annual Independence Day Parade, you promote your organization, our
community, and our national pride and heritage. This year, the parade will be managed by the
Graham Chamber of Commerce. Don’t miss this important opportunity to celebrate the birth of
our nation here in its heart: Graham, America!

On June 29th, at 6:00 PM, line-up begins on Oak Street between 4th and 5th Street, first come,
first serve. Parade Marshals at each block will help parade entries line up.

Parking will not be allowed along Oak Street between 4th and 6th Street, as we will need this
space for the parade line-up. Please walk to your respective float from nearby parking lots and
side streets. Please DO NOT drive on Oak Street unless you are placing a float.

The judges will be previewing the entries from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Entries will be judged based
on the interpretation of theme, creativity, and patriotism. Your assigned number must be visibly
posted on the right-hand side of your parade entry for judging & narrator purposes. Awards will
be announced at the end of the parade.

The parade will begin at 7:30 PM and will proceed at a speed of ~3 mph. During the parade,
please maintain a distance of 20 to 25 feet between entries. Our route will be around the
Square only
: start on Oak Street headed south, then eastbound on Fourth Street, southbound
on Elm Street, westbound on Second Street, and northbound on Oak Street to Fourth Street.
When you arrive at that parade ending point, you may take your entry to your disassemble area
by turning west on Fourth Street to northbound on Pecan.

Our main concern is the safety of everyone participating in and enjoying our parade celebration.
No firecrackers, firearm discharges, or liquor consumption will be allowed during the parade. All
participants must sign a waiver and return it to the Chamber office before Friday, June 28th.

For the safety of the children viewing the parade, candy is not to be thrown in the parade path or
by any parade entries. Float participants may pass out candy & handouts by hand walkers. For
the safety and enjoyment of those watching the parade, no wheelies or high revving up of
engines is allowed.

Parade Rules & Information

  1. All parade applications must be received by Friday, June 28th, at the Graham Chamber of Commerce.
  2. Entries can be golf carts, marching groups, auto/pick-up, horses, or any other approved vehicle.
  3. All vehicles must be approved by the parade committee and operated by people 16 years of age or older.
  4. For those in vehicles with engines: NO WHEELIES, BURNOUTS, OR REVVING ENGINES.
  5. All vehicles must be decorated!
  6. All participants walking in the parade must be over the age of 6. Anyone under the age of 6 must ride on a parade entry or be in a wagon or stroller pushed by an adult.
  7. Parade entrants are required to move continuously along the parade route.
  8. Parade entrants are not allowed to have alcohol in the staging area or along the parade route. The committee reserves the right to remove anyone believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at any time.
  9. No firecrackers, fireworks, or discharge of firearms is allowed during the parade.
  10. The decision to remove any entry or portion of an entry will be at the sole discretion of the Parade officials onsite.
  11. Every individual participating on a float must sign a waiver and return it to the Chamber office by Friday, June 28th.
  12. Other than horses and dogs, no animals are permitted. All animals must be leashed or harnessed and must have a handler over the age of 16. If a child under the age of 16 would like to ride a horse in the parade, a handler over the age of 16 must accompany the rider during the parade. Parade participants must make arrangements to clean up after animals (including droppings) immediately. Any animal in the parade must be known to be unaffected by loud noises, lights, children, etc.

Violation of any of these rules will result in immediate removal from the parade and possible
banning from future parades.

Judges will begin reviewing the entries at 6:30 PM. Entries will be judged on creativity and d├ęcor. Your assigned number (given to you during lineup) must be visibly posted on the right-hand side of your parade entry for judging purposes. Awards will be announced during the parade.


APPLICATION DUE DATE: Applications must be submitted by Friday, June 28, 2024.

ENTRY GUIDELINES: Parade entries may include, but are not limited to, floats, bands, bicycles, military and veterans’ groups, walkers, horses, autos, etc. All entries should provide their own vehicle if needed and have a patriotic theme & decorations.
